Here are some frequently asked questions surrounding smoothie bowls:
1. Are smoothie bowls healthy?
Yes! Smoothie bowls are made from frozen fruit which is full of important nutrients. I add a scoop of protein into the mixture and top my smoothie bowl with nuts and seeds making it a perfectly balanced breakfast.
2. Is frozen fruit healthy?
Because they’re frozen as soon as they’re harvested, frozen fruit retains their nutritional quality. Fruit that sit out in the fridge or at room temperature slowly decay and lose nutrients whereas frozen fruits do not.
3. How do you thicken a smoothie for a smoothie bowl?
To ensure your smoothie bowl is thick, you’ll need to blend minimal liquid with chopped frozen fruit. Avoid ice as it melts quickly. I recommend using a high speed blender like a VITAMIX that comes with a tamper. I often stop the blender, use the tamper to press the fruit down, add a splash of liquid if needed, then blend. If your blender is starting to burn or gets stuck, you’ll need to add more liquid. If it ever becomes too soft, you can always add in more frozen fruit to balance it out.
4. Are smoothie bowls good for losing weight?
Smoothie bowls are incredibly satiating and fuel your body with positive energy. When I start my day with a high protein smoothie bowl, I find I don’t think about food at all until lunch. Of course you can make smoothie bowls fattening by adding high calorie, low nutrient ingredients, but for the most part smoothie bowls are an excellent choice for those trying to lose weight.
5. Are smoothies high in protein?
I recommend adding protein powder and soy milk to your smoothie bowl to increase the protein content. EDENSOY has 12g of protein for 1 cup and 2 scoops of EPIC PROTEIN contains 26g protein.
